I am at the beginning of my journey as an aspiring midwife: the starting of academics. I am full of excitement, yet curious as to how the "unknowns" of my education will turn out, how long it will take, or whether or not the Lord reveals to me that I must simply wait.
It took me awhile to finally settle on a course to take for the academics aspect of my midwifery education. I searched for various different courses, read reviews over various different courses, and talked with other midwives (or aspiring midwives) about various different courses. After all of that, I have settled with taking the long distance course through Mercy in Action.
Mercy in Action is a non-profit organization founded in the Philippines. They provide birth centers and prenatal care for the poor women of that country. I am very excited to be able to learn from Vicki (one of the founders, as well as writer of the curriculum) and be apart of Mercy in Action! They are a very missions-minded organization, dedicated to getting help to preganant women and babies all around the world, in the name of Jesus!
The overall reason for why I chose to take my academics through Mercy in Action, is not only because I believe my education is going to be a very thorough one, but because of that missions focus that they have. My primary reason for pursuing midwifery is to be able to use it as a tool to be able to build relationships with women, to tell them of His love, to be able to use midwifery as a ministry for the glory of God. Mercy in Action, I believe, will teach me from this viewpoint, which is exactly what I was looking for!
